I’ve spent my life chasing many things,

witnessed the beauty of butterfly’s wings,

Enriched my soul with billowy skies

Horny toads, crickets and dragonflies.

But I’ve never seen beauty ‘till I saw you

Lazing beneath summer skies of blue

Innocent pure and unaware

You change the world just by being there

I felt the cool breeze on a hot summer day,

Found a lost child and showed them the way.

Held a dying relatives’ hand,

Tilled the soil and planted the land.

Cried for justice and screamed for right,

Willing to take up an honorable fight.

Felt my heart ripped clean from my chest

Done what I could and grieved over the rest.

But I’ve never seen hope ‘till I saw you

Innocent pure and unaware

I’ve felt inadequate, been elated,

Loved certain things I once had hated.

Rode a high current, sunk to the deep,

Witnessed things righteous others depraved,
