Lyrics

I have a great, great nephew, Brendan Anthony,

and from his very youngest age, trains were all that he could see.

Big trains, small trains, fast or slow,

anything about a train was all he cared to know.

Bullet trains are super-fast just like the name suggests,

and semi high-speed trains are slower, but pretty fast, nonetheless.

Luxury trains, for comfort, and a bit of history,

made Brendan oh so happy, and they filled his heart with glee.

Local trains, or regional rail, take you from town to town,

they are quite an entertaining way to get yourself around.

Passenger trains are used for people to travel far away,

but anytime you ride a train is a very special day.

An express train makes few stops, you see, along its scheduled route,

it gets from point to point so fast and that’s what it’s all about.

Bogies and locomotives are other types of trains

(trains are so much better, than even aeroplanes).

Bogies transport cargo, at their job they are the best.

Locomotives switched to steam, to give horses a rest.

A tram, streetcar, or trolley, runs through town on public streets.

They help you get to work and play, and have a lot of seats.

A monorail, as it suggests, runs on a single track,

sometimes way high up in the air, and without the clickety-clack

produced by the gaps in normal rails to let them contract and expand

as they travel with their rhythmic sound across the open land.

And when Brendan can’t see a big, real train, he simply just makes do

with his toy trains that he keeps on hand, like some other little boys do too.
