Quest

I calm the beast that cries at me
With angry eyes that cannot see
The pain it inflicts on such as thee.

Into the night I trek full on
Confronting next-days fiery dawn
And yes, I do it all alone

For I am but a wanderer.

The morn arises, sets the tone
For days to come and hearts alone
To waft and sway till all is done.

I’ve lost the battle, won the war
Of many who have gone before
Those yet to come, ‘er many more.

And those yet still a ponderer

Bystanders now engage in battle
Cages clink and chains that rattle.
Boats that float and oars that paddle

Intent to rise a victor

Hand to hand and fist to fist.
In such a cruel and fated twist
All one can do is but their best.

Bodies laid across the land
Much to dismay of mortal man
We must stand tall, as if we can

Adhere to codes much stricter.

When all is said and all is done
The battles lost and battles won
Can welcome days new fiery dawn
