Lyrics

Every time I hit a bump, a hiccup hence to tilt my load
I stopped to pick up every stone, placed to interrupt my road
I need to save these pesky stones, ne’er I know the reason why
yet every one does captivate and cause a twinkle in my eye

Some are smooth and some are large, some barely big to cause me grief
but each one has significance, I throw it on my road stone heap
One day I’ll deal with the pile, and then will tell the meaning forth
They alter not the path I walk, or tell the tales off my worth

So on I go collecting stones, and pondering the reason why
These stones were placed upon my path; the reason that they catch my eye
One day, I challenge to myself, I shall make meaning of the stones
The reasons I discovered them, along my rocky path alone

I spryly glide through years of youth, and saunter through my teenage years
Pressing through adulthood times, steadfastly push regret and tears
Aside until, I can’t go on, succumbing to my aged end
My legs can barely pack the load, my back has nearly ceased to bend

But I recall my younger years, a time collecting this stockpile
Of stones that were among my path, when I was young and juvenile
And yet I had the intuition to save the stones, the trouble caused
Believing I’d find a meaning for them, when my life was allowed to pause

I took the vast collected stones, and placed them one upon another
Until a castle I had built, that towered above and hovered over
Protecting safe my golden years , and then I knew the reason why
Intrusive stones placed in my path, caught my bright and seeking eye

I’m grateful for intrusive stones, placed in my path along the way
For they did come in handy at the proper time and proper day
I’m grateful for intrusive stones, placed in my path along the way
For they did come in handy at the proper time and proper day
